The Stanford Mansion International Host Committee

host committee logo

The recent renovation of the historic Stanford Mansion provides State leaders with one of the most unique settings in the nation for hosting visiting dignitaries. The Leland Stanford Mansion Foundation spearheaded the drive with the California Department of Parks to restore that historic structure and is now conducting a campaign to create a Mansion protocol event sponsorship fund, designed to:

  • Enable Governor Schwarzenegger and Legislative Leadership to host high-level meetings at Stanford Mansion with visiting business leaders and political dignitaries.

  • Create a permanent fund to maintain the Mansion and enable succeeding administrations to continue hosting international business and government leaders at that facility.

The Governor’s first guests at Stanford Mansion included the President of Mexico, the President of the Czech Republic, the Ambassador of India, and more than 100 members of the international Diplomatic Corps. Over 40 other international/ business receptions took place in the Mansion in 2006. That was just the beginning.

For donors to the restoration of Stanford Mansion, the creation of the Stanford Mansion International Host Committee will ensure that the Mansion is used permanently for protocol purposes. For businesses involved in international trade, this is an opportunity to bring the world’s leaders to California’s capital and receive them in a setting appropriate to a state boasting the 6th largest economy in the world.

Support by former Governors Pat Brown, Ronald Reagan, George Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and Gray Davis and current Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made it possible to restore Stanford Mansion for use as a protocol center. Governor Schwarzenegger is the ideal leader to bring that plan to life, strengthening global relations for the benefit of the state.

Membership Campaign Leadership

Former First Lady of California Gayle Wilson, California Chief of Protocol Charlotte Mailliard Shultz and Ambassador L.W. Lane are the Honorary Co-Chairs for this inaugural membership drive.

Benefits of Membership

Membership in the Stanford Mansion International Host Committee is a membership in the future of our state.

Annual membership includes recognition on select event materials and invitations for protocol activities held in the Mansion, as well as on the Mansion news website. A Stanford Mansion International Host Committee plaque listing all members’ names by category will be prominently displayed in the Mansion for the benefit and viewing of all visitors. Patron, Benefactor and Sponsor level members will be invited to the reception of visiting dignitaries at designated events.

A special opportunity: All memberships received during the Host Committee’s inaugural year from June 2007 through June 2008, regardless of the membership level, will be given permanent listing on the Committee’s roster as a “Founding Member.” Those who join during this same period at the “Founder’s Circle” levels of Patron and Benefactor memberships will be given permanent, active membership status for the corresponding one-time membership fee. During the inaugural year memberships may be paid over a 1- to 5-year period on a pledge payment basis.
